Upper Mustang Trek Beyond the Annapurna Himalayan chain, the awesome area calls trekkers to explore this remote region and discover the breathtaking Himalayas, arid landscapes, unique floral zones, and the remarkable Tibetan Buddhist culture. It is known as the Kingdom of Mustang, and trekkers hike through the awesome Kali Gandaki River Valley to the Kagbeni and continue on to the stone-walled town of Lomanthang.  This trek is a real adventure, in altitudes of up to 3800 metes (12,467 ft.).  The region is cool, and trekkers eventually reach the border region of Tibet. It is a wildly isolated part of Nepal, especially in relation to the Kathmandu Valley.  Lomanthang, the capital of Upper Mustang, is a fabled city with cultural values and traditions. The numerous monasteries and chortens along with cave style settlements and different celebrations in Upper Mustang make the trip a grand excursion. Local culture in the Kingdom has been practiced since before the Tibetans fled from their native country.

Upper Mustang Trek in Upper Mustang is restricted, and Shiva Excursions manages the excursion itinerary to adhere to the required regulations.  Culturally knowledgeable guides organize the trek to assure the best possible experience.

Note: If you want to have a very special trekking experience in Upper Mustang, we recommend visiting between the middle of April and the beginning of May. The Tiji Festival is celebrated around this time, and it is a world-renowned celebration.
