Gosaikunda Lake Trekking Overview
The Gosaikunda Lake Trekking is an exceptional journey in the Langtang region of Nepal, which is located in the north-central part of Nepal. This moderate journey takes you through the isolated wooden area encountering various ethnic Tamang communities all the way to the sacred Gosaikunda Lake, located at an altitude of 4380 meters. It is a way as a journey to heaven, which offers a fantastic experience of walking through the rural and isolated landscape, rocky terrain, and an exploration of the mighty peaks capped with snow.
Beginning the trek to Gosaikunda Lake from Dhunche, first, you need to take about 7 hours road drive from Kathmandu. If you want to extend it or trek with an alternative itinerary, you can combine this trek with the Langtang valley trek, beginning from Syaphrubesi. Once you embark on the trek from Dhunche, you march through the landscape, which is less inhibited. The trail is mainly dotted with the rhododendron woods along with orchid and sub-alpine trees in the Langtang National Park. It is also rich in fauna like Red Panda, Snow Leopard, Monkey and other wild animals. For the meals and accommodation, trekkers will find basic hotels and lodges that provide amazing meals and cozy rooms.
The destination of this trekking- the Gosaikunda Lake is related to Hindu mythology. It is believed that Lord Shiva created this Lake when He was soothing down the burning effect of poison. Hindu pilgrimage seekers prefer to make a pilgrimage trip to this Lake, especially in the Janai Purnima festival. This spiritual destination has been neighbored by other lakes like Surya Kunda and Ganesh Kunda (Lake). The entire surroundings will remain frozen during winter. The impressive Himalayan sceneries of Langtang Lirung (7246 meters), Gang Chhenpo (6,388 meters), Naya Kang (5,846 meters), Dorje Lhakpa (6,966 meters), Ganesh Himal (7,429 meters), and other snowy peaks can be explored. It is great to hike around the Lakes and explore the freezing alpine territory. Those who will cross the Lauribina Pass will descend to the Helambu valley or you retrace through the same route all the way to Dhunche.
